A Weekend of Innovation and Community Building

Last weekend, Twelve Labs had the privilege of hosting a hackathon at the Code Talent office in the vibrant RiNo district of Denver. Denver, and the broader Colorado area, is rapidly emerging as a hub for tech and AI innovation, with a thriving community of entrepreneurs, innovators, and technologists. From the Colorado Technology Association's efforts to foster a skilled and diverse tech workforce, to the City and County of Denver's initiatives to leverage AI for public services, the region is abuzz with activity.

We were excited to partner with a range of organizations that share our passion for AI and innovation, including the AI Tinkerers Denver Group, Focused Labs, Groq, Drive Capital, Freeplay, and Brain Wave Collective. Together, we brought together over 40 talented participants for a 24-hour challenge that showcased the rising AI community in Colorado.

The Challenges

Our hackathon featured three exciting challenges that pushed participants to think creatively and develop innovative solutions:

  • Sports Understanding: In this challenge, participants were tasked with creating AI-powered applications that analyze sports video data to provide actionable insights for athletes, coaches, and fitness enthusiasts. We encouraged solutions that demonstrated how multimodal AI can revolutionize sports understanding, training methodologies, and performance optimization.
  • Ecology & Environment: Participants in this challenge were asked to create AI-powered applications that analyze environmental video data to provide insights into ecological processes, climate change impacts, and conservation efforts. We looked for solutions that demonstrated how multimodal AI can enhance our understanding of environmental systems and contribute to sustainable management practices.
  • Wildcard: In this open-ended challenge, participants had the freedom to create AI-powered applications that analyze video to provide novel insights. We encouraged solutions that demonstrated how multimodal AI can enhance understanding and contribute to meaningful impact in any domain. The wildcard challenge allowed participants to think outside the box and showcase the versatility of multimodal AI.
